The Michiana Event Center is on the move. After looking at several locations the past few years the MEC has purchased property in Shipshewana on CR200N and SR5. Plans are to start excavation this fall and building in early spring, with full occupancy mid 2017.

The new facility is 100,000 square foot expo center with an adjoining 3500 seat coliseum with a 100x200 performance arena that can be expanded to 5500 seats for entertainment events. A staging and storage building is connected to the coliseum and will have the capability of housing up to 350 horse stalls and a 100' x 170' warm up ring for equine events.

The new facility was designed by Anchor Construction. Engineer, Jeffrey Schaffer noted that, "we are grateful to be part of this project. It has been a pleasure to work with the developers, the town, and the county as we've gone through this process. This is an exciting development for Shipshewana and Lagrange County."

The current location at 80/90 Toll Road and SR9 in Howe, IN has sold to ATJ Real Estate Holdings who will be utilizing the building as a warehouse.

The MEC board of directors are excited to welcome David and Elizabeth Fought of Middlebury, IN on board as majority shareholders. David Fought is a lifelong business owner in LaGrange and Elkhart County with Cruiser RV and DRV as his most recent success. Fought said, "Elizabeth and I are very excited about joining the MEC team and to be a part of the continued growth of the business and entertainment industry of Lagrange County and the town of Shipshewana".

With the expansion of the event center Jeff Fought has been hired as General Manager, he previously served as president of Cruiser RV. Jeff said “Shipshewana has a long reputation of being a great place to live and visit, I am looking forward to the MEC contributing to this growing community.”

Beth Thornburg of the LaGrange County Convention & Visitors Bureau commented, "This new facility will increase our event capacity and product offerings and bring additional visitors to our destination which will create a positive impact to our economy."
